Session notes

Notes taken during the session.

Initial Ideas - great ideas

  • We were not able to load all the data from the data set since it was so large, and So we used the data that would we could load. There seemed to a be limit of 256 variables as an option for excel, and we had problems with the format of the data in terms of its dimensionality. Thus, there was the same problem as with earlier data sets in that we needed to have time to process the data sets.
  • We also solved the problem of how many Phds you need to decide the total number of letters in the alphabet.......
  • Try looking at only Januarys for the 11 years to see if we could hear the patterns across the regions for that month.
  • Task 1: Calculate a mean for January for each location (using the given geographical information but not elevation) and then look to see what the difference is between the mean and each day. This way you could see how the precipitation varies from the mean and identify extreme events. Use a filter to change the sound so that the band width is larger when ratio for the precipitation is higher. We played all the location points per day for one month.
  • Task 2: Look at all the data -- try the "kichen sink approach" and see what we get.

Evaluation

does it work ? We aren't sure......For task 1, we had some impression of the change in precipitation for single days.

Whats next?

we would like to do...much more data processing ahead of time!
