Description of all sound examples
A guide to all the sound examples made in this session.
Team A decided to make an installation-type representation, where 5 regions would be present constantly, playing data values for their countries in random order. Over time, one gets an impression of this region.
1_World_A_examples_freq_dur.mp3 (left channel only)
Example 1 plays 3 x 3 individual events that have two changing properties:
frequency (later used to represent GDP (gross domestic product), and
duration (later used to represent population number)
2_World_A_gdp_Africa.mp3 (left channel only)
Example 2 plays all countries in one world region, Africa, in random order. GDP is mapped to frequency, population to duration.
3_World_A_gdp_Europe_Africa.mp3
Example 3 compares Africa and Europe on left and right channels. Repeat time is varied randomly to avoid coinciding notes. A better approach wouldbe using population to also set time between events, but there was not enough time to do that in the session.
4_World_A_gdp_5RegionsAtlantic.mp3
Example 4 plays all 5 regions around the Atlantic:
Europe, Africa, South America, Caribbean, North America, panned from left to right. This works better with real 5 channel setups (see code). random times between event starts; here also, wait times derived from population size would likely be better.
